Old Style Spreadsheet

This retro style spreadsheet editor is a tribute to the early 1980s, emulating the look and feel of pioneering spreadsheet software like VisiCalc the first electronic spreadsheet, released in 1979 for the Apple II by Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston. Credited as the "killer app" that propelled the Apple II from a hobbyist's machine to a business essential, VisiCalc revolutionized data analysis by allowing users to perform dynamic calculations on the fly, transforming paper-based ledgers into interactive tools for financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting. By the early 1980s, VisiCalc had sold over 700,000 copies, inspiring competitors like Lotus 1-2-3 (1983) for the IBM PC, which dominated the market with enhanced features like macros and graphics, and Microsoft's Multiplan (1982). These programs democratized computing in the business world, enabling rapid "what if" scenarios and complex projections without programming expertise. Despite their limitations such as no native graphing or advanced formatting early spreadsheets like VisiCalc laid the foundation for modern tools, proving that simple grids could power sophisticated financial models and data driven decisions.
