Metrics are indicators that show what expertise the team has in influencing the process being measured.
If you see a metric that is not related to the process or to any competency of the team, it is a bad metric.
Every metric should have a business process associated with it, then it will be useful and not vanilla. By understanding which competencies are associated with influencing that process, you will be able to manage that process through hiring the right people.
