Cohort analysis allows you to see changes in business processes that can lead to problems, such as cash gaps. That said, if you look at a business in the usual way - just the sales per month - it's not easy to see problems. Cohorts show at a glance how unit economics metrics change over time and what it can lead to in the future.

Usually such problems are related to the fact that a business has learned how to attract new customers, but has not learned how to keep current customers in the business, while the business model makes money on repeat sales.
